How do we use Pupil Premium Funding at Eden to raise attainment?
The Pupil Premium funding introduced in 2011 is additional funding for publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils of all abilities and to close any gaps between them and their peers.
The Pupil Premium scheme has given schools an additional budget to spend freely in a way they believe would maximise support and improve the achievements of these potentially vulnerable pupils.
The scheme is also offered for those children who are in care or who have been looked after for more than six months. It acknowledges the additional support these children require in order to maximise their educational achievement. It is also provided for children of parents in the armed services.
Pupil Premium is carefully ring-fenced so that it is spent on the target group of children. At Eden the numbers involved are incredibly small. In some years we have no pupils eligible for this funding. In others, 2 or 3. The greatest number of pupils we have ever had is 4. This makes the options available for the allocation and spending of funding more restricted than in schools with large numbers of children eligible.
We have the highest expectations of all our children. Through our Pupil Progress Meetings we use assessment information to identify which pupils are underachieving and use research evidence to allocate funding to the activities that are most likely to have an impact on improving achievement.
All class and subject teachers know which pupils are eligible for Pupil Premium so that they can take responsibility for implementing strategies for accelerating their progress, and they are accountable for the progress of these children through the appraisal process.
At Eden Primary support to raise achievement is personalised according to each individual. We use our knowledge of children and their families to identify potential barriers to individual children attaining their goals, and use the funding flexibly to overcome these barriers. We are committed to ensuring that pupils fulfil their potential in a particular subject or skill and that this is not hindered by of a lack of opportunities outside of school, or a lack of family finances. Therefore, funding may be used to support these children in experiences and skills beyond their academic gains.
Through careful monitoring and evaluation we can show the positive impact of our spending on the outcomes for pupils.
Pupil Premium 2022-2023
In 2022-23 our allocation for Pupil Premium Grant was £2,770
We have identified the following barriers to educational achievement that we shall be targeting our spending of pupil premium money on in order to provide specialist teacher support, targeted resources and personalised support in the classroom.
- We have a very small number of pupils eligible for the pupil premium grant. Each pupil’s circumstances are identified and addressed through personalised provision.
- Any academic underachievement is very carefully assessed and targeted with teaching support.
- Regular meetings with families help to identify any areas of support needed that may arise mid year.
- Pupil premium pupils may sometimes not have the same or as many opportunities outside school as their non-pupil premium peers.
Our current pupil premium expenditure can be found on the “Financial Information” section of our Policies page.
