The music curriculum at Eden Primary intends to develop in all children a lifelong enjoyment of playing and listening to music.

High quality music education has been shown scientifically to have a positive impact on children’s overall attainment, to improve self esteem and wellbeing and give them a sense of achievement. The positive impact of music on children’s mental health will help prepare them for challenges they may
encounter later in life and give them a skill that they can draw on throughout their lives.

Our curriculum covers the National Curriculum and incorporates some parts of the government’s Model Music Curriculum for Key Stages 1 & 2, published in March 2021. It aims to expose children to a wide range of musical experiences and develop their passion and curiosity about sounds and music. Children
will leave Eden with an appreciation of different genres of music, the ability to describe and evaluate music, compose a short piece, and understand basic music notation.
