RENEWING THE VISION, SECURING THE FUTURE
Eden Primary, the only Jewish school in Haringey, is B’nei Mitzvah! 13 years ago, Eden was founded to fulfil the need for a different type of school: a Jewish school for everyone.
Eden today has over 200 pupils and, alongside Muswell Hill synagogue and Gan on the Hill, is an essential part of the Jewish communal infrastructure in the area.
Like all schools, money is tight. Eden is financially sustainable and is proud of a very active parents’ group but it needs serious investment after its first 13 years. Funds raised from the Bar Mitzvah crowdfunding campaign will secure the future of Eden Primary, for the next generation of children to be part of this amazing community.
Priority ONE: Outdoor Education and Play
Eden’s educational ethos is based on access to nature, fresh air and the idea that the natural world is the best classroom for experimental and collaborative learning. Eden was designed so that each class can have an outdoor classroom space that is used through most of the year. The outdoor classrooms for the youngest children need a massive overhaul in order to remain functional including new roofing and resurfacing. The outdoor classrooms for the older children have never been developed. In addition, new outdoor learning equipment is sorely needed.
Cost: £100,000
Priority TWO: Supporting Children with Additional Needs
Eden needs to create a calm down and sensory zone to support children who need time out of regular classroom time in order to self-regulate. Eden prides itself on being an inclusive school and has a number of children who would hugely benefit from this extra support. This is an investment for all children at Eden ensuring that children with additional needs get the space they need and that the classroom remains a functional learning space. A pod or sensory room will be built inside the school and will also serve as an additional quiet place for children-teacher meetings.
Cost: £50,000
Priority THREE: Building Development and Essential Repairs
Any funds raised after satisfying priorities one and two will be used to make the building more fit for purpose or to replace failing or sub-par infrastructure that cannot be covered by existing budgets. For example, a small meeting room for visiting professionals and small group work is needed; the roof at Eden needs proper repairs to prevent further damage; the entire school needs basic redecoration.
