Eli, Hebrew teacher, writes:
As part of the Festival of Spoken Ivrit (Modern Hebrew) in Britain we are involved in bringing to our children high quality theatre performances in Hebrew. This year we are fortunate to have two productions. Our older learners (Anafim, Nitzanim, Prachim and T’marim) watched an adaptation of the story of Peter Pan on Monday. In it, Tom is moving to a new place and finds it difficult to meet new friends. His favourite story and character is Peter Pan. The story asks: will Tom be able to rise above his difficulties? The actor who visited was called Eden! He played all the characters in this performance. The play aimed at younger children is called The Lion and the Mouse. It is a tale about true friendship between a lion and a few other animals the lion meets. This is scheduled to take place next Thursday. The productions are mainly in Hebrew and we use them as a positive experience with the children of how we can understand a performance even if we are not fluent in Hebrew.
